Democratic Primaries for the Board of Supervisors

June 15, 2015 - On Tuesday, June 9 your UNION was successful in reelecting our friend, Penny Gross, Mason District Supervisor, in the district’s Democratic Primary Election.  While Penny won by less than 700 votes to gain her victory, Local 2068 and other labor organizations were integral in assisting her crossing over the finish line.  Supervisor Gross will run against an Independent Candidate, Mollie Loeffler, in the General Election this November.

Gerry Hyland, Mt. Vernon Supervisor, is retiring at the end of this calendar year. Dan Storck won the Democratic Primary in the Mt. Vernon district beating out opponents Tim Sargeant, Jack Dobbyn, and Candice Bennett.  Dan will be moving on to the General Election in November against his Republican Candidate, Jane Gandee.  Dan Storck is currently a member of the Fairfax County’s School Board representing Mt. Vernon.

Brothers and sisters, all 10 seats on the Board of Supervisors are up for reelection during November’s General Election.  Your UNION is sending out questionnaires to ALL candidates, incumbents, and challengers alike.  The questionnaires will be relevant to our occupation only.  In order to receive Local 2068’s endorsement, candidates seeking our support (financial, staffing, letters, signs, etc) must complete and return the questionnaire by July 10, 2015.  That being said, the questionnaire is but one factor in our endorsement process.  We will look at the past votes of the incumbents.  We will stand by those who have stood by us.  Actions, as always, speak louder than words.

As the endorsement process begins I will continue to keep the membership informed.

Lastly, thank you to all of our members who came out to assist Penny Gross with her victory in the primary – it is very much appreciated.

Fraternally,

John
