I was assigned to 16 and my first day in the station I was detailed to 23. Rode the back step. First call I ever went on was to Pickett SC. Was almost thrown off the rear step!!!! I recall it was an open cab pumper. Can't remember if it was a Seagrave or ALF.

Dennis Michaliga I think you're right. It was my first exposure to the paid volunteer thing too. A volunteer came in that night and the shift LT had to ride the bucket. You could have fried an egg on his forehead.. I remember a closed cab ALF at 8 that ran as the Eng. It had the mechanical siren mounted on the driver's door and Fitzgerald would wind that thing up!!!!! It's why my hearing in my left ear is jacked up..... 4 years ago
