Thanks to the generosity and kindness of the citizens and visitors of Fairfax County, Fairfax County Professional Firefighters & Paramedics, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and the Fairfax County Department of Public Safety Communications is proud to announce that the 2014 Fill the Boot Campaign to benefit the Greater Washington Muscular Dystrophy Association was a big success. Three shifts of firefighters working four days, and four shifts of personnel at the dispatch center raised, collected and donated a grand total of $488,245.32. I am proud to announce that this money could alone: Fund one week of summer camp for 60 children, providing a totally "normal" camp experience to children with neuromuscular disease AND Provide those same 60 kids with one year of of repairs to their durable medical equipment such as braces, wheelchairs and walkers. AND Provide those same 60 kids with a flu shot, because simple medical problems like the flu can have devastating consequences to someone with neuromuscular disease AND Pay for nearly 105 hours of MDA-supported research so that someday, hopefully soon, cures will be found and Filling the Boot will no longer be necessary. Ladies and gentlemen, *THAT* is what your Fairfax County Public Safety Professionals did this weekend and I couldn't be prouder to represent them.

Fairfax County firefighters are out again today in pursuit of the Fill The Boot championship. If you are driving around the county, drop a buck in the boot and help us help those with neuromuscular disease and their families!

Loving the fact that the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Retirement Association helps out during Fill the Boot by putting together T-shirt orders. There is nothing better than listening to the camaraderie of a bunch of guys who have been giving each other **** for over 45 years.
